The Aston Martin Valen, shown here for the first time, marks a genuine shift in direction for the team in Gaydon, and it is not only because there is no British Racing Green in sight. Outright pace, reduced mass and a thunderous soundtrack were the main priorities for Aston Martin while creating its newest bespoke model, and the outcome certainly lives up to that brief.
Unveiled on Friday at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering during Monterey Car Week, the Valen has been designed to turn heads. It sits on the chassis of the Aston Martin Vanquish and carries over that car’s V-12 powertrain, but it has been comprehensively reworked by Q — the British carmaker’s bespoke division named after a certain fictional spy’s quartermaster — with maximum performance as the goal. Aston Martin maintains that the car still belongs in the grand touring category, though it will not be as plush or as hushed as a typical V-12 Vanquish.
At the core of the Valen is a twin-turbo 5.2-litre V-12 producing 838 horsepower and 737 lb-ft of torque. That makes it not only the most powerful front-engined Aston Martin ever, but also the most powerful front-engined car ever sold for road use. Paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox, the Valen sprints from 0-60 miles per hour in exactly three seconds. Aston Martin has electronically capped the top speed at a still-serious 214 mph.
Managing that level of performance requires careful calibration, so special attention was given to the Valen’s throttle mapping, which varies depending on the selected drive mode: Sport, Sport+, and Track. The Sport and Sport+ settings use shorter maps and need less pedal travel to unlock more power. Track mode, by contrast, delivers a longer and more progressive pedal response for more precise throttle control.
Reducing weight was another major objective of the Valen programme. Aston Martin’s engineers succeeded in removing nearly 250 pounds from the V-12 platform, mainly through extensive use of carbon fibre, aluminium, titanium and magnesium. Solid aluminium suspension arms, knuckles and titanium chassis bolts alone contribute 37 pounds of savings, while a fresh set of magnesium wheels also helps trim weight and reduce unsprung mass.
From a dynamic standpoint, the Aston Martin Valen uses Bilstein DTX semi-active dampers and model-specific springs to achieve its targeted G-loading figures. The car’s electronic stability control and suspension systems both received hardware and software revisions to give the Valen a sharper edge. Even the tyre camber settings were altered to suit the car’s personality. Aston Martin also revised the brake booster to preserve a firm pedal feel from the carbon ceramic braking system.
Arguably the most thrilling element of the Valen is its dramatic 12-into-four exhaust setup. Aston Martin wanted the Valen to deliver a proper roar at both low and high speeds, so it developed a clever system that boosts volume while remaining road-legal. The headline figure is that the Valen is 50 percent louder than the Vanquish. It is not just louder either, because the four exhaust outlets work semi-independently: the upper exits remain open all the time, while the lower valves open only at specific throttle positions.
That hard-edged mechanical philosophy is reflected in the Valen’s styling as well. Rather than using softly sculpted surfaces and wide-open front-end forms, the car adopts crisp lines and an aggressive, ready-to-pounce stance. The headlamps are set deep within a slim and sharply defined leading edge, while the radiator opening and geometric mesh grille link directly to the front splitter. There is also a single functional bonnet vent positioned near the centre of the bonnet.
Lower down, the Valen gets saw-tooth vortex generators that genuinely generate downforce, along with a narrower section of side glass. The rear of the Valen is even more extreme, featuring a solid tailgate and a fixed aerodynamic wing mounted on the boot lid. That performance-led design is offset by a boot offering more than six cubic feet of capacity, plus an optional bespoke luggage set. A full-width light bar sits beneath the upswept tail, which also contributes useful downforce, while a perforated panel below the light strip helps draw hot air away from the exhaust area.
The cabin of the Valen was shaped around the idea of visual lightness, and a range of 3D-printed components plays a central role in achieving that effect. Switchgear from the Aston Martin Valhalla has been carried over into the Valen, joined by either newly developed Sport Plus seats or lightweight carbon fibre performance seats. Buyers can choose between semi-aniline leather with Alcantara or a full semi-aniline leather interior, depending on preference. The centre console is new as well, taking some inspiration from the Valhalla, and the angle of the centre screen has been adjusted to better favour the driver.
The Valen’s launch shade, Satin Andromeda Red, was selected with intent. Aston Martin wanted the Valen to represent the sharp end of its range, and a softer green tone of the kind often seen on the brand’s cars simply would not have delivered that message. An exposed carbon fibre exterior finish is also available for customers who want it, and the weave itself can even be tinted by Aston Martin’s Q division on request.
Aston Martin will build only 150 examples of the Valen, with first deliveries planned for the second quarter of 2027. Company representatives said the bespoke cars would likely be 2027 model-year units. Pricing will start at $2 million for each car, although bespoke options are expected to push the final cost considerably higher.
