Malaysia, Southeast Asia’s third-richest country by GDP per capita, has been named the best country on the planet for digital nomads thanks to its cheap cost of living and flexible visa policy, a report says.
Malaysia scored 79.1 out of 100, thanks to its low cost of living and favorable tax treatment of foreign income, according to the report by global advisory platform Rumavi, which ranked 192 countries and territories based on factors including connectivity, affordability, lifestyle, street safety, and visa access.

The country enjoys a tropical rainforest climate year-round, with hot and humid weather and temperatures typically ranging from 23 to 33 degrees Celsius.
It started offering a digital nomad visa program in October 2022 in an effort to attract remote workers from around the world.
To be eligible for the visa, applicants are required to have an annual income of at least US$24,000. However, concerns over street safety remain.
Portugal came in second in Rumavi, followed by Thailand and Georgia.
