The State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV&ACB), Bhiwani, has arrested a lineman of the electricity department for allegedly accepting a ₹15,000 bribe in Kharkhoda in connection with the installation of a new electricity connection.

The accused has been identified as Prateek, a resident of Sonipat district, who was posted as a lineman at the electricity office in Kharkhoda.

According to the complaint submitted to the bureau, the complainant, who is engaged in farming, had applied for an electricity connection for his house and shop located opposite the grain market on Rohtak Road in Kharkhoda.

When the connection was not installed, he approached Prateek at the Kharkhoda electricity office. The complainant alleged that the lineman demanded ₹30,000 in exchange for facilitating the electricity connection.

The complainant further alleged that Prateek had already accepted ₹10,000 and subsequently demanded another ₹15,000 as part of the bribe.

Acting on the complaint, the SV&ACB Rohtak registered a case and laid a trap. The accused was arrested while allegedly accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant.

A case has been registered against Prateek under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at the Police Station of the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, Rohtak. The case has been registered as FIR No. 24 dated August 13, 2026.

Bureau officials said the operation was conducted transparently in the presence of independent witnesses. Further investigation and legal proceedings are underway in accordance with law.
