There is a major update for candidates preparing to become teachers in Bihar. The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has finalized preparations to conduct the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) 2026. As part of this process, the BSEB will begin accepting applications for the Bihar STET 2026 starting August 17. BSEB Chairman Dr. Tyagarajan SM personally announced this information. He stated that the notification for Bihar STET 2026, containing the full schedule, will be released on August 14. The commencement of the STET application process prior to the notification for the TRE 4 teacher recruitment drive will bring relief to a large number of candidates.

Let us look at the details of the situation. We will explore how long it has been since the last STET was held in Bihar, understand the purpose of the STET, and find out how many teacher vacancies are proposed under the TRE 4 recruitment drive.

**STET 2026 after 11 months**
STET was also conducted in Bihar in 2025. Applications for the 2025 STET were invited from September 19 to October 5, and the exam itself was held between October 14 and November 16. The exam took place across 23 centers in nine districts of the state. The STET covered 29 subjects and was conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. Thus, the application process for the Bihar STET is being conducted for the second time within a span of 11 months.

**Why is STET conducted?**
The Bihar STET determines eligibility for teaching in the state's schools. Essentially, the STET is conducted at two levels: STET Paper 1 determines eligibility for teaching at the secondary level (Classes 9–10) in government schools, while STET Paper 2 determines eligibility for the higher secondary level (Classes 11–12). Candidates who qualify in these exams become eligible to apply for teacher recruitment.

Teacher Recruitment for Over 32,000 Posts in Bihar

A requisition for this has already been submitted; the process involves recruiting 3,847 teachers for classes 1 to 5 and 8,563 teachers for classes 6 to 8. Similarly, 3,877 teachers will be recruited for classes 9 to 10, and 16,101 teachers for classes 11 to 12; the notification for this recruitment is expected to be released soon.
