Hyderabad: Food safety officials have taken action against four street-food manufacturing units in Attapur after inspections uncovered serious violations of food safety norms. Around 25 kg of prepared food, including pani puris and samosas, was discarded during the operation.
Four units found violating norms
The Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team (H-FAST), along with GHMC Food Safety officials, conducted inspections at NM Guda in Attapur on July 28.
Officials raided one pani puri manufacturing unit and three samosa preparation units. The establishments were reportedly operating without valid licences and were found maintaining poor hygiene standards.
Authorities also found that substandard raw materials were being used in the preparation of food.
25 kg of food discarded
As an immediate public health measure, officials discarded 10 kg of prepared samosas and 15 kg of pani puris at the spot.
The action was taken to prevent potentially unsafe food from reaching consumers.
Food safety officials have initiated legal proceedings against the operators under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Action highlights food safety concerns
The inspection has once again highlighted concerns surrounding hygiene and licensing in small-scale food preparation units.
For consumers, the action serves as a reminder of the importance of choosing food establishments that maintain proper hygiene and operate with the required food safety licences.
Authorities are expected to continue inspections to identify establishments that fail to meet prescribed safety standards.
