Napoli and Arsenal have held talks over the possibility of a move for Gabriel Jesus, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed, but as is often the case, everything depends first on player sales and then on agreeing personal terms.

It is no secret that the Partenopei have been showing strong interest in the Brazil forward, who is capable of playing through the middle as a centre-forward as well as on either the left or right wing.

According to Romano on his Italian-language YouTube channel, Napoli made direct contact with Arsenal to understand exactly what conditions would be needed to complete the transfer.

The move would need to be a permanent transfer rather than a loan with an obligation to buy, because his current contract is set to run out at the end of this season.

Corriere dello Sport reports that an agreement could be reached for less than €20m, while the striker’s salary would be around €6m per season.

Even after gathering that information, Napoli still need to complete more outgoing transfers following Romelu Lukaku’s move to Fenerbahce, both to raise money and to create room in the squad.

They would also have to settle personal terms with Gabriel Jesus, and that could prove more complicated than expected because of the club’s wage ceiling.

If Fenerbahce, Besiktas or even Milan were to make a serious move for the 29-year-old, Napoli would find it hard to match them on wages and bonuses.

Interestingly, Jesus shares the same agent as Napoli head coach Massimiliano Allegri, and that representative has been seen at the club’s training camp in Castel di Sangro several times over the past week.
