Remember “Diamond Biscuit, Diamond Biscuit…”? If you have watched Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, chances are you just sang the rest of it in your head. Now, that fictional biscuit from the film has been turned into a limited-edition collectible.
For Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara fans, there is something strangely nostalgic about this completely fictional biscuit. The jingle lasts only moments in the film, but 15 years later, people still remember every word, every “toing,” and that ridiculous coconut-flavour tag at the end.
And now, fans can actually bring a piece of that nostalgia home.
The Diamond Biscuit Was Never Real. But The Memory Is
In Zoya Akhtar's 2011 road-trip film, Kabir, Arjun and Imraan turn a simple car ride into one of the film's funniest moments. Arjun and Kabir tease Imraan by singing the goofy childhood biscuit commercial he had apparently acted in. The three friends loudly sang out the jingle, turning an embarrassing childhood memory into a wonderfully silly moment that captures their friendship.
It is fictional advertising inside a fictional world. Yet somehow, it feels completely real. That is what makes the scene so relatable. Almost everyone has grown up remembering an absurdly catchy advertisement or a childhood jingle. (The Nirma Washing Powder jingle plays in my head as I write this). The Diamond Biscuit jingle became exactly that for ZNMD fans.
Zoya Akhtar Has The Biscuit Tin
Zoya Akhtar recently shared pictures of a vintage-looking Diamond Biscuit tin she received. Inside the tin is a card featuring illustrations and the unforgettable lyrics of the jingle. Sharing it, Zoya wrote: “Ode to the copywriter. I just received this collectible, and it's a good day.”
The collectible is the brainchild of copywriter Malvika Thirani, who decided to turn the fictional biscuit into something tangible as a tribute to the craft of copywriting and the cultural memory of ZNMD. As she explains on the project website, the idea came from one simple realization: it is not every day that a jingle for a biscuit nobody has ever eaten survives for 15 years.
So, for the film's 15-year anniversary, she decided to bring the fictional biscuit to life.
What Exactly Do Fans Get?
The Diamond Biscuit is a limited-edition commemorative collectible tin designed to look like the kind of nostalgic biscuit packaging that could have existed decades ago.
The tin has a designed card carrying the lyrics:
“Diamond biscuit, diamond biscuit, eat whenever you feel like it”
“Diamond biscuit, diamond biscuit, get healthy taste”
“Toing…toing.”
And yes, that makes it perfect for anyone who has ever randomly shouted “TOING TOING!” with their friends.
The Diamond Biscuit is being released as a one-time limited edition of just 200 collectible tins. There will be no restock and no reproduction once this batch sells out. Even better, the collectible itself is free. Fans only have to pay Rs 200 towards shipping and handling. There is also a limit of one collectible per eligible customer.
Diamond Biscuit was a tiny fictional detail created for a film scene. But the jingle became one of those ZNMD references that fans immediately recognize.
