Which Indian players will be in focus in the BWF World Championship?

The BWF World Championship is scheduled to start from August 17. This time this prestigious tournament is to be played in the hosting of India. This competition being organized in New Delhi will run from 23rd August. Badminton World Championship is being organized in India for the second time. Earlier in 2009 this tournament was played in Hyderabad. PV Sindhu is the only Indian player to win this championship. She won the title in 2019 by defeating Nozomi Okuhara.

 

Saina Nehwal was the first Indian player to reach the final in 2015 but had to face defeat at the hands of Carolina Marin. Similarly, PV Sindhu had missed becoming champion in 2017 and 2018 but she soon ended the title drought. Kidambi Srikanth is the first and only Indian male shuttler to reach the final of the BWF World Championships. He took steps towards the title in 2021. PV Sindhu

Double Olympian PV Sindhu ended her two-year long title drought last month. She became the first Indian to win the title of Japan Open Super 750 tournament. She defeated the strong challenge of Akane Yamaguchi in the final. Sindhu has been seeded 9th. Sindhu will start her campaign against Sophia Noble of Ireland. Apart from Sindhu, Unnati Hooda will also challenge India in women's singles. He has to face Thet Tar Hujar of Myanmar in the first round.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty created history by winning the Singapore Open in May. They had defeated the Indonesian pair of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in the final. Satwik-Chirag have won BWF World Championship medal in 2022. This star pair of India has been seeded fifth in men's doubles. Satwik-Chirag have got a bye in the first round.

Lakshya Sen

Star shuttler Lakshya Sen has been seeded 14th. 2021 bronze medalist Lakshya is scheduled to face Austria's Collins Valentine Filemon in the first round. Lakshya had won the Australian Open title in November last year. Apart from him, Ayush Shetty will also enter the men's singles. Ayush had won the bronze medal in the 2023 BWF World Junior Championship.

 

Simran-Kavipriya

Simran Singhi and Kavipriya Selvam will also be in focus in women's doubles. This pair is going to debut in the World Championship. Simran-Kavipriya are at 38 in the world ranking. The duo is playing regularly in the Super 300 and Super 500 circuits and has represented India in the Badminton Asia Championships.

 

There are expectations from the star pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto in mixed doubles. His best world ranking so far has been 16. The pair is going to enter the World Championship with 15th seed.
