PSG won the Super Cup for the first time 12 months ago by defeating Tottenham Hotspur. This time too the team maintained its dominance as the top club team of Europe by defeating another team of the Premier League.

Although the assistant referee initially signaled offside, the goal was validated after a review by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). The review found that Aston Villa defender Matty Cash had placed Duay onside.

After this Aston Villa tried their best to equalise. George Hemmings and John McGinn had good chances, but PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov made brilliant saves to keep his team’s lead.

Aston Villa continued to attack in the closing stages of the match. Tammy Abraham also had a great chance to equalise, but he missed by a narrow margin after touching the pass in front of the goal.

PSG withstood pressure in the last minutes to maintain a 2-1 lead and win the UEFA Super Cup for the second consecutive time. Now PSG will be eyeing to win its third consecutive Champions League trophy in the new season.
