Pakistan Cricket Team: The Pakistan cricket team is facing severe criticism these days due to its consistently poor performance. Questions are being raised about the players’ performance as well as their thinking and priorities. Meanwhile, former Pakistan Test cricketer and former chief selector Iqbal Qasim has targeted the current generation of players. He says that many young Pakistani cricketers are focusing more on earning money rather than improving their game and playing for the country.

Qasim believes that Pakistan’s current players lack the same dedication and commitment to improving their technique, understanding of the game, and skills as before. According to him, wearing the national jersey should be the ultimate reward for players, but currently, they seem more focused on making money than on cricket.

Pakistani players are more focused on earning money than playing the game.

Iqbal Qasim, who played 50 Test matches for Pakistan, said that while he doesn’t want to compare cricket in his time with the current one, he sees a lack of appetite among young players to address their shortcomings and understand the game better. According to him, it seems that many players are more focused on making money than on cricket.

Speaking to PTI, Qasim said, “I don’t want to talk about the past or my time playing cricket. But I see a lack of interest or commitment among most young players to focus and work hard to improve their awareness and skills. They seem more focused on making money.”

‘The format of cricket has changed, but the basic principle remains the same.

Qasim further stated that while the format of cricket may have changed significantly over the past few decades, the key to success remains the same. He added, “Despite the changes in cricket over the past few decades, the key to success remains the amount of time a player is willing to devote to honing their skills and understanding the game, and this is not happening in Pakistan cricket these days.”

The former Pakistani spinner also expressed concern about the over-reliance on coaching staff and data in players’ preparation. He said young cricketers should sit down and analyze their mistakes and understand how to play in different conditions.

‘Playing for the country is the biggest reward’

According to Qasim, representing the country should be the biggest reward for any player. If a cricketer consistently improves his game and performance, money will automatically follow. Players don’t need to constantly chase earnings.

He continued, “I believe that playing for your country is the greatest reward for a player. I’ve always believed that the more you improve as a player, the more money will come naturally; you don’t need to work for it.” Furthermore, the former cricketer questioned Pakistan’s current team selectors. He expressed concern about their lack of vision and interference in cricket administration.
