Noida: A 19-year-old woman from Assam was found dead inside a paying guest accommodation in Noida's Baraula village, triggering a murder investigation. Police have taken a man living in the same building into custody in connection with the case.

The deceased, identified as Mahak Ahmed from Dibrugarh, Assam, was found in a locked room on August 10. The room belonged to Raman, a BTech graduate from Bihar, who lived on the same floor of the three-storey building.

Woman Had Arrived In Noida Three Weeks Ago

According to police, Mahak had completed Class 12 and had come to Noida around three weeks before her death without informing her family. She was staying at the PG accommodation with her 18-year-old friend Sanjana, who is also from Assam.

Both women were staying on the first floor, while Raman occupied another room on the same floor.

Investigators said Mahak and Sanjana were walking through the corridor on the night of August 8 when they allegedly had an argument with Raman, who was sitting outside his room. Police are now trying to determine the exact reason behind the dispute and what happened afterwards.

Locked Room Led Police To Investigation

The case came to light after Sanjana left the accommodation for some work and later returned to find Mahak missing. Her phone was switched off, raising concerns among residents.

Soon after, people living nearby noticed a foul smell coming from Raman's locked room. Raman was reportedly not present at the property, following which the landlord was informed.

Police received a call through Dial-112 on August 10 and reached the spot. After opening the room, officials found Mahak's body inside.

Digital Evidence And Forensic Probe Underway

Police said injury marks were found on the victim's body, including wounds suspected to have been caused by a sharp-edged weapon. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, while forensic teams collected evidence from the crime scene.

A murder case has been registered against Raman based on a complaint filed by the landlord, Sarthak Bansal.

Investigators are examining Mahak's phone records, chats and other digital information to understand the sequence of events. Police are also trying to establish when she entered Raman's room, how long the accused remained at the location after the incident and the possible motive behind the alleged crime.
