An Everton forward has been charged with an alleged breach of Football Association betting regulations.

Everton striker Martin Sherif has been formally charged by The Football Association over an alleged violation of its gambling rules.

In an official statement issued by the governing body, the 20-year-old attacker was charged under FA Rule E1.2 in relation to 61 bets placed on football matches across a 15-month period.

The FA said the alleged breaches took place between November 20, 2024 and February 12, 2026. Sherif has until Monday, August 17 to submit his formal response to the charge.

Rule E1.2 imposes a total ban on betting for anyone involved in professional football in England.

Under those regulations, players, managers, coaches, club staff and officials are not allowed to bet, either directly or indirectly, on any football match or competition.

The rules also prohibit the sharing of inside information with third parties for betting purposes, or asking others to place bets on someone's behalf.

Sherif, who was born in Liberia and is a Netherlands youth international, joined Everton's academy in 2019 at the age of 13 after moving from Dutch club Almere City.

He made a strong impression in the youth set-up at Finch Farm before signing his first professional contract with the Merseyside side.

The young striker spent the 2025/26 season on loan in League One, with separate spells at Rotherham United and Port Vale, making 29 senior appearances in all competitions and scoring four goals.

If the allegations are proven, the Everton forward could face disciplinary action ranging from a fine to a lengthy suspension from all football activity. Neither Everton nor Sherif has made any public comment on the charge.
