Delhi: Former Australian cricketer Aaron Summers has been sentenced to 10 months in jail in a case to sexual exploitation of a minor. The Tasmania Supreme Court gave this decision after hearing the case. The court acknowledged that Summers used the identity and influence he gained as a cricketer to gain access to underage people.

Justice Helen Wood, who is hearing the case, said that Summers' reputation as a player gave him the opportunity to establish contacts with young people. The court considered this aspect an important part of the seriousness of the case.

Met the girl during a cricket match

This matter is to December 2017. At that time, Summers was playing for Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL). Meanwhile, during a match in Hobart, he met a teenage girl and her friends.

After this, during another match on January 15, 2018, there was a conversation between Summers and the teenager near the boundary of the field. The conversation progressed and the two started communicating through Instagram and Snapchat.

According to the court, Summers planned to meet the teen the next day. He took her by car to a school at night. At that time, Summers was 21 years old, while the girl was only 15 years old and studying in ninth or tenth grade.

The court considered age and experience as important aspects

During the hearing, it was put before the court that the girl was very young and inexperienced. Justice Helen Wood said she was too young to fully understand Summers' true intentions and the nature of the relationship.

The matter was not limited to just one incident. The court was told that Summers continued to have contact with the teenager and sent her objectionable photographs. Information about the conversation between the two continuing till the beginning of 2021 came before the court. Summers later pleaded guilty to two charges to sexual offense with a minor.
