Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has hit another low point after a significant setback during his time at AS Monaco.

Pogba has gone through an incredibly challenging spell since leaving United on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.

He rejoined Juventus, but his second spell in Turin did not unfold as expected, initially because of injuries that restricted him to only a small number of appearances.

The World Cup-winning midfielder was then given a lengthy suspension after failing a doping test. He tested positive for DHEA, a prohibited substance that increases testosterone levels. He was initially provisionally suspended by Italy’s national anti-doping tribunal, NADO Italia, before receiving a four-year ban in February 2024.

Pogba repeatedly maintained that he had done nothing wrong, and his appeal proved successful in October when the Court of Arbitration for Sport cut his suspension down to 18 months.

The Carrington academy product completed a remarkable return to football last summer when he joined Monaco. However, he managed only six competitive appearances for the club during the 2025/26 season, playing a total of 115 minutes.

The midfielder then picked up another injury in pre-season, and several French media reports now state that Monaco have decided to let him go because of it.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development, writing on X, “BREAKING: AS Monaco offer contract termination to Paul Pogba.”

“Club want to mutually terminate his deal by September 1st to let Paul find new club this year.”

“Decision up to Pogba (now injured) but AS Monaco informed his camp, as per Nice Matin and Le Parisien.”

According to The Athletic, discussions are continuing between Pogba’s representatives and Monaco over a formula to bring his contract to an end.

It is understood that the Ligue 1 side had hoped to help the 33-year-old regain his former fitness levels, but now believe they have been unable to meet that objective.
