Former Indian cricket star Ajinkya Rahane is set for a new role post his retirement from cricket. 38-year-old will be seen making his commentary debut for Sony Sports Network during the upcoming India vs Sri Lanka Test match which is set to start on 15th August.
Sony Sports put out a press release with the former cricketer quoted as saying “I’m excited to make my Test commentary debut for India’s tour of Sri Lanka on the Sony Sports Network and Sony LIV. Test cricket is the pinnacle of our sport, and having represented India in the format for so many years, it is a privilege to now look at the game from a different perspective”
Ex-Kolkata Knight Riders skipper also said in the release “I’m looking forward to sharing experiences, breaking down the nuances of the game and offering fans insights into the decisions, strategies and moments that can shape a Test match. I hope to make the broadcast experience more enriching for fans and give them a deeper understanding of what happens on the field.”
Former India batter set for stint in new cricket league
Not just commentary but the former Indian batter and skipper is also set to be busy on the field. Ajinkya will play for Amsterdam Flames in the upcoming season of the European T20 Premier League. The flames will take on Rotterdam Dockers in the opening match of the tournament that is set to be played on 26th August.
After making his India debut in 2011 against England in the T20I and ODI format, the cricketer made his Test debut in 2013 against Australia in New Delhi. In 85 Tests for the national side, he scored 5077 runs with an average of 38 and also hit 12 centuries and 26 fifties.
Veteran star last played for KKR in the IPL 2026 game against Delhi Capitals where he scored 63 runs. That was the last of his 212 match IPL career with 5367 runs with two centuries and 35 fifties with a strike-rate of 125.
Shubman Gill-’s side are set to begin their Sri Lankan campaign with the first Test at the Galle International Stadium. Second game will begin on 23rd August which is to be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. India’s last Test tour of Lanka was in 2017 where Rahane was a key member of the side and had done well with the bat.
