Barcelona have reportedly caught Paris Saint-Germain off guard by putting a steep valuation on Ferran Torres after the forward asked to join the Parc des Princes side. The Spain international, coming off a successful World Cup run, is said to be keen on linking up again in Paris with his former national team manager Luis Enrique.

Barcelona set premium valuation for Torres

Barcelona are prepared to take a tough line with PSG over Torres, with the Catalan club asking for at least €65 million to approve a transfer, according to SPORT. Although the Blaugrana were at first reluctant to part with the versatile attacker before bringing in a replacement, the player’s clear wish to leave has prompted a shift in position at Camp Nou.

The rise in his valuation is said to stem largely from Torres’ decisive role for Spain, where he scored the winning goal in the World Cup final against Argentina. Club officials in Catalonia believe a player of his quality and big-match pedigree should bring in a fee substantial enough for Barcelona to reinvest in their attack.

PSG seek lower fee as Torres agrees personal terms

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has tried to play down the growing speculation over the 26-year-old’s future during the club’s pre-season build-up. Speaking after a friendly in Udine, the German manager declined to go into detail about the negotiations involving the French side. Flick said: "I respect the players' holidays and I do not have information."

Flick’s careful response comes while Barcelona’s squad is going through major changes, including the exit of important names such as Ronald Araujo. The coach admitted the challenge of handling a squad in the middle of the transfer window, saying: "We always talk about improving and including players we need, but we must be calm. Torres leaving would bring to a close a productive period in Catalonia, where he managed to evolve from a winger into a dependable central attacking option.
