New Delhi, 11 August 2026: Abhishek Porel, playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL, is in trouble. This cricketer from Bengal has been arrested by the police. Porel is accused of rape on the pretext of marriage. There are some other serious allegations against him also, due to which the police arrested him from 'Emami City' area under the jurisdiction of Dum Dum Police Station.
According to SP Kunwar Bhushan Singh of Hooghly Rural Police, in June, a student had filed a complaint that Porale had physical relations with her after promising to marry her. She had also alleged that Porale had assaulted her and given her criminal threats.
High Court issued orders
Subsequently, the Calcutta High Court ordered the police to arrest the cricketer in connection with this case. However, Porale has clearly denied all the allegations against him. According to the complaint, the woman said that she and Porel were in a relationship for the last three years, but differences started arising between them last year. Thereafter, the cricketer started keeping distance with him. She alleged that Porale had promised to marry her, but now he is going back on that promise.
In the complaint, the woman has said that Porale had sexual relations with her several times on the pretext of marriage. She has also accused Porel of exploitation and issuing criminal threats. Speaking to news organization PTI, a police officer said, “We have received the complaint and have started investigation.”
Member of 'India A' team
Porel is a well-known name in Indian cricket. He plays for Delhi Capitals in IPL. Apart from this, he has also played for 'India A' and has gone on tour with the team to England and Australia. He made his debut in first-class cricket for Bengal in the 2021–22 season and has played 32 matches so far; He has also played 23 'List A' matches.
