X Creator Revenue Sharing Program: Elon Musk has announced the discontinuation of the creator revenue-sharing program on X. The company states that new sign-ups have already been halted. However, existing eligible creators will receive their final payout—covering earnings up to September 7—around September 11. Simultaneously, X has launched a new "Original Content Rewards Program" for creators, focusing on original and creative content.

Why did X discontinue the old revenue program?
X's previous revenue-sharing program offered eligible users who posted on the platform an opportunity to earn money based on the engagement their content received. However, having a premium X account was a prerequisite for participation.

According to X's Head of Creator Operations, Allegra Zia-Chakia, the incentives in the old program were not yielding the desired results. She noted that instead of creating new content, many creators were repurposing others' content solely to secure payouts.

In light of this issue, X decided to scrap the old system and start afresh.

New sign-ups closed since August 7
X has also announced that new sign-ups for the old revenue-sharing program were closed effective August 7.
The existing payment system for current creators has not been terminated immediately; the company has set specific dates for the final payouts.

When will the final payment be made?
According to X, the final payout schedule for existing users is as follows:
First payout: August 14
Second payout: August 28
Final payout (for earnings up to September 7): Around September 11
In other words, the final payment for eligible earnings accrued up to September 7 under the current revenue-sharing program will be made around September 11.

What is special about the new program?
The new initiative is called the "Original Content Rewards Program," and it replaces the old revenue-sharing program. The goal of this new program is to reward creators who add new value to the platform through their original ideas, expertise, reporting, commentary, and creativity.
X will focus on content that goes beyond simple resharing or low-effort posts, instead showcasing the creator's unique voice and perspective.

What kind of content will be considered 'Original'?
X defines original content as material created by the creator themselves, reflecting their own voice, perspective, expertise, or creativity.
This can include various types of content, such as threads, videos, memes, original reporting, analysis, commentary, reactions, photos, graphics, illustrations, and other creative work.
Existing content that has undergone significant and meaningful transformation—through original context, analysis, narration, humor, or creative editing—may also qualify for the new program.

How will earnings work under the new program?
Under the new system, eligible creators can earn money based on 'qualified impressions' generated by their original content.
Payouts will be issued every two weeks, provided the account and content meet all the program's requirements.
X states that the new model will prioritize creators who genuinely add original value to the platform.

Who can apply for the new program?
There are specific eligibility criteria for joining the original content reward program, as outlined below:
Creators must be at least 18 years old.
They must reside in a country where the program is available.
They must have a personal or business X account.
They must have a subscription to the X Premium plan.
The account must have at least 500 verified followers. There must be at least 500,000 home timeline impressions from verified users over the past 90 days.
Reply impressions will not be included in this figure.
The creator must regularly post original content.

Where can one apply?
Applications for the new program can be submitted via Creator Studio. According to the company, the application outcome will be communicated within three business days.
If an application is rejected, the creator will have one opportunity to appeal. Should the appeal also prove unsuccessful, the creator may reapply after 90 days, provided they meet all eligibility criteria at that time.

Why is this change being made?
The company states that this move could shift the direction of creator content on the platform. While the old system emphasized engagement and payouts, the new model seeks to prioritize original content and the creator's genuine value.
The company aims to reward creators who bring fresh content and foster conversations on the platform through their unique perspectives, expertise, and creativity.
