Barcelona have adopted a firm position in the transfer market after rejecting an initial official offer from Paris Saint-Germain for Ferran Torres. The Spanish forward has already told the Catalan club's hierarchy that he wants to move to the Parc des Princes, but Barca are waiting for a better financial package before approving his exit.

PSG bid falls short of Barca's valuation

According to Marca, Barcelona have formally turned down the first official bid from Paris Saint-Germain for Torres. The French champions submitted a proposal worth €50 million, made up of a mixture of fixed payments and performance-based add-ons. However, the Blaugrana leadership have indicated that this structure is still not enough to complete a deal for the former Manchester City attacker.

The Catalan side are reportedly insisting on an agreement in which the €50 million amount is fully guaranteed as a fixed fee, with extra variables to be discussed over and above that base figure. Luis Campos and Deco, the sporting directors of the two European giants, have been in talks for several days in an attempt to reach common ground.

Torres keen on Parc des Princes move

The player's own stance has been a major factor in speeding up discussions over the past week. Torres informed Barcelona that he wants to play for PSG next season and asked the club to help facilitate a permanent transfer. Rather than standing in the way, Barcelona have shown they are open to negotiating his departure, recognising the player's wish for a new chapter in the French capital.

With only one year left on his current contract at Camp Nou, the Barcelona hierarchy see a fee in the region of €50 million as a solid return for a player who could otherwise walk away for free next summer.

Parallel talks over Rodri

While the Torres situation continues, Barcelona are also active on the incoming front, with senior-level negotiations under way with Manchester City. The Blaugrana are trying to work out a deal to sign Spain midfielder Rodri in what would be one of the standout moves of the summer. Reports indicate that the financial framework of that possible transfer is very close to the numbers being discussed in Torres' possible exit.

Talks with Manchester City are believed to be at an advanced stage, with both clubs valuing the deal in a similar range. With Rodri also moving into the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium, discussions are continuing, although the two clubs have still not reached a final agreement.

Busy week in the Catalan market

Apart from the developments involving Torres and Rodri, it has been an extremely busy spell for the Barcelona board as they try to reshape the squad. The club are also close to completing the departure of Ronald Araujo, who is nearing a loan move to Liverpool.

Barcelona are clearly eager to sort out these unresolved matters before the new season gets fully under way. The club want a quick conclusion to Torres' exit - the forward joined from Manchester City in December 2021, scored 21 goals in 49 appearances last season, and enjoyed the highlight of his summer by netting Spain's winning goal against Argentina in the World Cup final - while at the same time pushing to complete Rodri's arrival so that the squad is fully settled.
