Dhemaji, 10 August 2026: A violent and shocking incident over a land dispute has come to light on Monday at Mingmang Basti on the border of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Some unknown persons from Arunachal Pradesh opened indiscriminate fire on Assam villagers, injuring at least 8 people seriously. After this incident, there is a high tension and fear in the border area.
According to police sources, there was a long-standing dispute between the two sides over alleged encroachment and encroachment on Assam land by some people from Arunachal Pradesh. The dispute escalated around Monday morning and people from across the border fired several rounds at Assamese villagers.
The injured in this sudden attack have been identified as Durgeshwar Patir, Rohit Dole, Nagaraj Dole, Biggeshwar Patir, Pame Pegu, Sanjay Tayung, Utpal Dole and Jan Dole. Immediately after the incident, all the injured were shifted to Gogamukh Rural Hospital for treatment. According to doctors, since the condition of seven of the injured is very serious, they have been referred to Dhemaji Civil Hospital for further and proper treatment.
As soon as the incident of firing was reported, the local police administration swung into action. Additional security forces and police force have been deployed to maintain peace and law and order in the sensitive Assam-Arunachal border area. Senior police officers have reached the spot and are conducting a detailed investigation into the entire matter. The administration is seriously investigating the encroachment dispute and other facts behind the attack so that strict legal action can be taken against the culprits.
