Tottenham full-back Djed Spence has been offered to Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool as the summer transfer window gathers pace, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The adaptable defender, who is comfortable playing on both the right and left sides, is currently weighing up his options before the new season as he looks for assured first-team football.

Speaking on The United Stand, Ben Jacobs said Spence’s name has been doing the rounds among leading English clubs as a possible option for full-back reinforcements.

“They might sign a right-sided full-back who can play on the other side,” Jacobs said. “Djed Spence is a name on the player side who has been offered around. He’s been offered to Liverpool, been offered to Manchester United.

I’m not aware yet whether the clubs are interested in that deal, but Spence wants to go somewhere he can play week-in, week-out, whether that’s on the right or the left.”

Although neither Manchester United nor Liverpool have moved into advanced talks at this point, both clubs are still assessing ways to strengthen their options in the wide defensive areas.

Despite showing his individual quality in flashes, the battle for places in Tottenham’s defence has limited his game time, leading the defender to explore opportunities elsewhere for regular football.

Spence’s standing was notably enhanced after a run of impressive performances on the international stage.

His energetic and dynamic displays during the World Cup highlighted his capacity to cope with elite-level opposition and make a strong contribution in both defensive and attacking phases from the full-back roles.

Those eye-catching individual performances have raised his profile across Europe. While Tottenham may still consider whether to keep him, Spence’s desire to become a regular starter could speed up a major move before the transfer window closes.
