Manchester United are reportedly involved in a three-way tussle to sign Bologna defender Jhon Lucumi. According to a recent report from Corriere Di Bologna, the Red Devils are set to face competition from Nottingham Forest and Chelsea in the battle to recruit the Colombian centre-back during this summer transfer window.

Lucumi had a strong campaign with the Italian side recently and delivered a string of impressive displays at the heart of the defence. The Colombian defender featured in 29 league games for Bologna last season, finding the net once and helping his team record eight clean sheets along the way.

The 28-year-old is regarded as one of the most gifted central defenders in Serie A at the moment. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that Manchester United are among the clubs trying to secure his services later this year.

His existing deal with the Italian club is due to expire at the end of next season, and that situation could allow the Red Devils to bring him in for a relatively low fee this summer.

Lucumi is a dependable tackler and has the awareness to judge his challenges well, which helps him come up with some vital interceptions in defence. He is also comfortable clearing the danger when his side are under pressure and is particularly good at playing his way out from deep inside his own half.
