Odisha Claims Victory in Hockey India Junior Mens National Championship

The Hockey Association of Odisha has clinched the title of the 16th Hockey India Junior Men's National Championship 2026 - Division 'A'.

The team secured a thrilling 2-1 victory against Hockey  in the final held on Saturday in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

The final showcased a fierce competition between two strong teams. Mandeep Kerketta scored an early goal in the second minute, giving Odisha a crucial lead and putting pressure on Madhya Pradesh. Despite a strong comeback from Hockey Madhya Pradesh, who continued to create opportunities, Odisha's defense held firm. The match remained intense as both teams fought for midfield control and sought chances in the attacking circle.

In the 37th minute, Sohil Ali equalized for Madhya Pradesh, making the final quarter even more exciting. However, Odisha responded with renewed vigor, regaining the lead in the 45th minute through captain Deepak Pradhan.

With the championship title on the line, Madhya Pradesh pushed hard for another equalizer in the final moments. Nevertheless, Odisha maintained their 2-1 advantage, securing the championship title.

In the third-place match, Hockey Punjab displayed an impressive attacking game, defeating Hockey Jharkhand 6-3 to claim the bronze medal. Gurvinder Singh opened the scoring for Punjab in the 11th minute, followed by two quick goals from captain Jarman Singh in the 34th and 36th minutes. Charanjit Singh added two more goals in the 52nd and 53rd minutes, while Ajaypal Singh completed Punjab's tally with a goal in the 41st minute.

Jharkhand fought valiantly until the final whistle, with Patras Hassa netting a hat trick in the 33rd, 40th, and 56th minutes. However, Punjab emerged victorious with a final score of 6-3.
