Boca Juniors have officially confirmed the final capacity planned for the expansion of La Bombonera. The club’s general secretary, Ricardo Rosica, announced it on Radio La Red, saying: “We’re at 80,000 seats.”

The stadium will therefore increase from its current capacity of 57,000 to more than 80,000 seats. That amounts to an expansion of nearly 40% compared to the present figure.

The redevelopment plan includes shifting the pitch four metres towards the railway tracks. That adjustment will allow the demolition and reconstruction of the box structure on Del Valle Iberlucea Street, with new seating sections, six levels of boxes and a fourth tier above both ends of the ground.

Rosica also defended the choice to enlarge the existing stadium rather than construct a new one. According to the club official, those alternative proposals were promising capacities of up to 150,000 spectators “in a place that doesn’t exist.”

The club has already completed more than 90 works as part of the project, although several are still in progress. Rosica summed up the current stage by saying: “We’re in the final stretch.”
