A brutal case of animal abuse in Jieyang, Guangdong Province, has triggered widespread outrage across China and beyond, with animal welfare advocates demanding stronger legal protections after a stray mother dog and her three young puppies were killed in an act of extreme cruelty.

According to reports circulating online, the incident occurred on June 28, when four minors allegedly captured a stray dog known to local residents as "Wang Wang" and her three 14-day-old puppies. The puppies were reportedly beaten to death with spiked clubs before the mother dog was tied with a wire around her neck, doused in a flammable liquid, and set on fire. Videos shared online allegedly showed the boys laughing and filming the attack.

Animal lovers say Wang Wang, despite suffering severe burns, managed to crawl back to the bodies of her puppies before dying beside them. Residents described the stray as a gentle dog that had never attacked or harmed anyone and had simply been protecting her litter.
