Weather Update, August 7: Monsoon rains continue to wreak havoc in many parts of the country. Heavy rainfall is lashing several states, from Jammu and Kashmir to Kerala. Rainfall has brought relief from the heat in northern India, while flood-like conditions persist in many areas of Assam and Kerala after heavy rains.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for several states for August 7. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rain in several states, including the capital Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Kerala.
There will be rain in Delhi and NCR
Delhi and surrounding areas have been experiencing intermittent rain for some time now. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for August 7. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be 23 degrees Celsius. The day is expected to remain cloudy, with moderate to heavy rain possible.
Thunderstorm and rain alert in 14 districts of UP
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rain accompanied by strong thunderstorms is expected in 14 districts of Uttar Pradesh today. These include Agra, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Chandauli, Kanpur, Meerut, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Mathura, Prayagraj, Deoria, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur. People have been asked to follow the weather department’s advisories.
Rain will continue in Bihar
Rain will continue in Bihar. According to the Meteorological Department, many parts of the state may receive good rainfall until August 9th. Heavy rain is also expected in several districts on August 7th.
Heavy rain warning for next 48 hours in Kerala
Kerala is experiencing continuous rainfall. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain in the central and northern parts of the state for the next 48 hours. An orange alert has been issued in Kasaragod, Kannur, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Alappuzha, and Pathanamthitta districts. A yellow alert is in effect in several other districts. Fishermen and coastal residents have been advised to exercise caution and avoid venturing into the sea.
Red alert issued for several districts in West Bengal
Heavy rain is also expected in several districts of West Bengal. Very heavy rain is possible in East and West Medinipur and Bankura. Kolkata, North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Jhargram, Purulia, and West Bardhaman are also expected to receive heavy rain until Friday. Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar are also likely to experience heavy rain.
Heavy rain alert in these states
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Sikkim, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, North Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Apart from this, light to moderate rain is likely in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Western Uttar Pradesh, Eastern Rajasthan, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa. The Meteorological Department has appealed to the people to avoid unnecessary travel in areas prone to heavy rain, be cautious in waterlogged areas and keep an eye on the latest updates issued by the Meteorological Department.
