Barcelona could derail Real Madrid's pursuit of Rodri, with the Catalan club reportedly 'exploring' a move for the midfielder.
The Manchester City playmaker has enjoyed a busy summer after starring for Spain, the World Cup winners.
The Madrid-born midfielder had been heavily linked throughout 2026 with a return to La Liga to join José Mourinho's team. However, according to journalists Pol Ballús and Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, Barcelona are now trying to get ahead of their rivals in the race to sign the 30-year-old.
Barça are understood to have spoken with Rodri's representatives over a possible transfer, with the player said to be open to reuniting with a large number of his Spain teammates.
After missing most of the 2024/25 season because of injury, Rodri made 33 appearances for City last season before going on to enjoy an outstanding campaign for his country this summer.
