Jagran State Bureau, Srinagar | Srinagar police registered an FIR against People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti for allegedly assaulting an on-duty police officer, obstructing government work, and interfering with law and order duties.
Police alleged that during a scuffle, Iltija bit a police officer on the arm, causing a bleeding injury.
According to the Srinagar police, a protest was organised on the evening of August 4t at SK Park under the leadership of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and her daughter, Iltija. During the protest, some people allegedly ignored restrictions imposed by the administration and attempted to block Residency Road and proceed towards Lal Chowk.
Clash Between Police And PDP Leaders
Police said male and female personnel deployed at the scene repeatedly appealed to the protesters to maintain peace and obey the law. Despite this, a group of protesters allegedly attempted to remove police barricades and obstruct police officers engaged in maintaining law and order.
During the ensuing scuffle, Iltija Mufti allegedly scuffled with a police officer on duty. Police claimed that she grabbed the officer and bit him on the arm, causing a deep wound and bleeding. The injured officer was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors treated the wound, administered tetanus protection, necessary vaccinations, and other medical treatment.
Police Initiate Action Against Iltija
Considering the incident a serious case of alleged assault on a government employee while on duty and obstruction of government work, the police have registered FIR No. 63/2026 at the Kothibagh police station. A detailed investigation has been initiated.
In connection with the investigation, Iltija has been summoned to appear at the Kothibagh police station on Friday and join the investigation. Police said that anyone found involved in the alleged attack on government employees or obstruction of government work during the investigation will be prosecuted in accordance with the law. However, there was no official response from Iltija or the PDP as of the time of writing this report.
