In today’s fast-paced lives, many people are constantly thinking about something or the other. Sometimes, they think thousands of times before making even the smallest decisions. Meanwhile, some people, instead of thinking about their future, dwell on the negative events that have already happened. This causes a person to feel sad, and they remain stuck in the past instead of the present. This is considered overthinking, which is troubling many people today. The Hindu scripture, the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, provides solutions to avoid this overthinking.
The Srimad Bhagavad Gita, the most sacred text of Hinduism, contains verses and teachings that can help individuals overcome many of their problems and troubles. According to the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna offered Arjuna some solutions to overcome overthinking. By adopting these solutions, people can calm their minds.
What is the teaching of Bhagavad Gita?
In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna told Arjuna that one should always perform actions without worrying about the consequences of their actions. This is why many people often overthink about the results of their actions. When we don’t worry about the results of our actions, half our worries will disappear.
“Karmanye vadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachan.”
Let not the fruits of action be thy motive, nor let thy attachment be to inaction.
The meaning of this verse is that a person has control only over their actions, not over their results. Therefore, keep doing your work and don’t worry about the results, because we cannot control the outcome of our actions.
Happiness and sadness are temporary
Many people consider the difficult circumstances of their lives to be permanent and remain immersed in their sorrow. This is why they constantly ruminate. The Bhagavad Gita states that happiness and sorrow are temporary.
In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna clearly states that happiness and sorrow are temporary. Just as the darkness of night does not last forever, neither does suffering and pain last forever. This means that the same person who faces difficulties also experiences comfort and success. Similarly, the Gita states:
‘The touches of matter, O Arjuna, are the causes of cold, heat, pleasure and pain.
They come and go and are impermanent; bear with them, O Arjuna.
This means that happiness and sorrow come and go like heat and cold. They are temporary. This verse conveys the message to devotees that they should not dwell too much on temporary circumstances.
