Not only Bradley Barcola: Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye signals approval for Liverpool transfer

Liverpool are pushing strongly to complete a move for Ibrahim Mbaye, with the highly rated winger making the Merseyside club his preferred destination this summer. At the same time, the Anfield outfit are in talks over a blockbuster deal for his Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Bradley Barcola, and Mbaye’s possible arrival underlines a clear intent to overhaul their attacking options completely before the transfer window shuts.

Pushing for a double deal

According to RMC Sport, Liverpool are working to bring in Mbaye in order to improve their options on the right wing. Mbaye has already given the move the green light, and discussions with Paris Saint-Germain are now expected to start soon.

Liverpool are aiming to sign both Bradley Barcola and Mbaye during this transfer window. Mbaye has become frustrated by the limited game time he has received in France, even though he made 30 appearances and scored three goals last season.

Paris Saint-Germain have placed a €50 million valuation on the Senegal international, a figure that reflects the huge promise he displayed at the recent World Cup, where he got on the scoresheet in his country’s 3-1 loss to France. Liverpool are not alone in the race, with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City also keeping a close watch on Mbaye.

Overcoming fierce competition

Although Borussia Dortmund had already made enquiries about Mbaye, Liverpool have now established direct contact with his new agent, Jorge Mendes. The teenager recently joined Mendes’ Gestifute agency, which adds an important new layer to the negotiations. Mbaye also has multiple offers from Bundesliga clubs, and he had come very close to joining RB Leipzig before that move collapsed after a separate transfer involving Ousmane Diomande to Paris Saint-Germain broke down. After that setback, Mbaye has made the Liverpool project his priority.

Paris Saint-Germain will consider selling only if an exceptional offer arrives, but they also accept that a parting of ways may become necessary. If Mbaye is sold for a fee close to the €50m asking price, it would represent another financial success for Paris Saint-Germain following Goncalo Ramos’ recent move to AC Milan.

Answering the manager's call

The chase for Mbaye fits exactly with the demands made by head coach Andoni Iraola, who recently stressed how essential it is to strengthen the wide areas before the new season begins.

Iraola made his transfer priorities clear while speaking to reporters: "There are obvious situations where we need to sign players. Winger for example, we definitely need to sign a winger."

Bringing in Mbaye along with Barcola would hand Iraola the pace and technical quality needed to put his preferred counter-attacking system into action. Liverpool are ready to test Paris Saint-Germain’s resolve, aware that signing two of the French club’s brightest young talents could reshape the direction of their season and give them the squad depth needed to challenge in every competition.

What comes next?

Liverpool are now set to open formal negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain over Mbaye. As the winger has already prioritised a switch to Anfield, reaching an agreement on personal terms through Mendes is expected to be straightforward. If Liverpool manage to secure both Mbaye and Barcola, the club would almost certainly need to speed up Cody Gakpo’s exit, with Tottenham Hotspur ready to move before the transfer window closes.
