Newcastle United’s interest in Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini is increasing after a challenging summer that also saw Eddie Howe leave the club.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, early exploratory contact has been established with both Atalanta and the player, although no official offer has been submitted so far.
Scalvini is represented by Ali Barat’s Epic Sports Agency.
Atalanta are looking to complete a major sale in this transfer window after Ederson’s proposed move to Manchester United collapsed, and that situation could encourage them to listen to bids for Scalvini and even Charles De Ketelaere.
The Bergamo club could still take a firm stance in negotiations and are expected to demand a sizeable fee, but they remain open to offers for the Italy defender. Inter’s attempt to sign Marco Palestra earlier this summer underlined just how tough Atalanta can be to deal with in the market.
