Palermo FC have officially lodged their bid with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) to be selected as one of Italy’s host venues for UEFA Euro 2032.

At the centre of Palermo’s submission to the FIGC is a complete redevelopment proposal for the historic Stadio Renzo Barbera.

Created in partnership with globally recognised sports architecture firm Populous and consultancy company Turner & Townsend, the project is designed to turn the stadium into a modern and sustainable urban landmark.

The plan goes beyond facilities used only on matchdays, with the aim of building a year-round community hub for social interaction, entertainment, work and economic development, while keeping the supporter experience at the core of the design.

Palermo were initially considered outsiders when compared with other candidate cities across Italy, but the club has rapidly put together one of the most credible proposals currently under consideration.

That progress has been driven by cooperation between Palermo FC, the Municipality of Palermo, the Sicilian Regional Government and owner City Football Group (CFG).

For CFG, the bid marks another phase in its long-term investment strategy for both the club and the wider region, following the recent opening of Palermo’s new state-of-the-art training centre.

The submission has already drawn praise from national football authorities and UEFA representatives because of its clear vision, commitments to sustainability and speed of delivery.

With Italy and Turkey set to co-host the tournament in 2032, the FIGC must reduce its host list to five Italian cities. If Palermo are selected, a modernised Renzo Barbera would bring top-level international football back to Sicily for the first time since the 1990 World Cup.

Alongside Palermo, the other 12 Italian cities that have submitted bids to host Euro 2032 matches are Rome, Milan, Turin, Naples, Florence, Bari, Bologna, Cagliari, Genoa, Lecce, Salerno and Verona.

From those 13 candidate cities, the FIGC will choose five to host matches at the tournament in six years’ time.
