In a recent report, Sport stated that Manchester United have earmarked Racing Santander youngster Jorge Salinas as a target for the ongoing summer transfer window. It has been claimed that the Red Devils are prepared to activate the Spanish defender’s release clause in order to get ahead of Barcelona in the race to secure his signature this off-season.

Salinas enjoyed a strong spell with the Spanish outfit in the previous campaign, delivering a string of eye-catching performances down the left side. The 19-year-old registered seven assists in 34 appearances for Rayo Vallecano last season across all competitions.

The Spanish teenager is currently regarded as one of the most talented young defenders in La Liga. Therefore, the Red Devils would benefit from winning the battle for his services in this transfer window.

His existing deal with the Spanish club is set to run until the summer of 2029, which could make it difficult for Manchester United to land him on a bargain fee during this off-season.

Salinas is a solid tackler and can read danger quickly to pull off some important interceptions at the back for his side. He tends to clear his lines when needed and is also a reliable passer of the ball.

The Spanish wonderkid can also create promising opportunities for his teammates in the final third and is capable of making a useful contribution with assists from the left flank. Salinas operates mainly as a left-back but can also fill in as a centre-back when required. However, there are some doubts about whether he would be able to cope with the physical nature and high tempo of the Premier League if the Red Devils succeed in signing him later this year.

Salinas would enhance the quality of Manchester United boss Michael Carrick’s defence over the long term. He is already good enough to challenge for regular first-team football at Old Trafford.
