RC Strasbourg Alsace have officially confirmed the signing of Giovanni Reyna, 23, from Borussia Monchengladbach. The attacking midfielder has put pen to paper on a five-year deal with Racing, which will keep him at the club until 2031, with reports stating that Strasbourg paid €3m to complete the transfer.
A United States international with 43 caps and 10 goals, Reyna started his professional career at Borussia Dortmund after joining the German club in 2019 from the New York City FC academy.
Long viewed as one of the leading prospects in American football, the Sunderland-born player has still not fully delivered on that promise, with a succession of injury problems during the early part of his career preventing him from showing his best level consistently.
Following his move to Gladbach last summer, Reyna endured another challenging campaign. He made only 20 appearances, totalling just 577 minutes on the pitch, and directly contributed on only two occasions, with one goal and one assist.
Reyna was also included in the United States men's national team squad for last month's World Cup. He featured in five matches and scored in Mauricio Pochettino's side's emphatic 4–1 win over Paraguay.
