In the lead-up to the NEET PG examination, several major changes have been introduced. If you are preparing for the postgraduate medical entrance exam (NEET PG), this information could be quite beneficial for you. The central health ministry has implemented several important modifications ahead of the exam.

Candidates can now select three preferred exam cities, and they will receive information about their exam center approximately three weeks prior to the test date. Let’s explore other significant changes.

Option to Choose Exam Centers Near Home

With this change, candidates can now choose their preferred exam centers from three states, with the state of correspondence being given priority. This will prevent candidates from having to travel to distant states for the exam.

Advance Notification of Exam City

Students will now receive information about their exam city about three weeks before the exam. Previously, this information was often provided just days before the exam, causing significant inconvenience for travel and accommodation arrangements.

Changes in Exam Pattern

Due to these new changes, NEET PG 2026 will now consist of only 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), down from 200. The total duration of the exam will remain 210 minutes, allowing candidates more time to address each question.

Single Shift Examination

This year, the NEET PG exam will be conducted in a single shift. The ministry states that this will ensure all candidates receive a question paper of equal difficulty, making the evaluation process fairer.

Enhanced Security Measures

The examination will incorporate Aadhaar verification, biometric checks, and, if necessary, iris scans. Additionally, the entire process of preparing and delivering the question paper to the exam center will be secured through encryption and a robust digital system. Over 60,000 staff members will be deployed to ensure smooth conduct of the exam.

More than 273,000 candidates have registered for this year's exam, marking an increase of approximately 12.5% compared to last year. This time, the examination centers will undergo prior inspections, and measures such as CCTV surveillance, biometric verification, candidate searches, signal jammers, live monitoring, and independent observer oversight will be implemented.
