New Rules: Several new rules concerning Aadhaar, PAN, ration cards, and the EPFO have come into effect from August 1, 2026. Let us understand how these changes will impact the financial and government-related tasks of the general public.

New Rules (August 1, 2026): Starting today, August 1, 2026, several new rules have been implemented that could directly affect the daily financial activities and government-related tasks involving essential documents for the common person. Important changes regarding Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, ration cards, and the Employees' Provident Fund (EPFO) have come into force today, and it is crucial to be aware of them.

We often see changes in rules at the beginning of every month. Similarly, several significant updates have been implemented this time as well. If you use banking services, avail benefits from ration schemes, or invest in a PF account, these changes could prove beneficial for you. Let us look at these changes in detail...

New rules regarding Aadhaar and PAN cards

Aadhaar card alone will no longer be sufficient to apply for a new PAN card.
It will be mandatory to provide a birth certificate, voter ID, or other valid documents as proof of date of birth.
The name recorded on the PAN card must match the name on the Aadhaar card.
PAN cards that are not linked to Aadhaar may be considered inactive.

Important updates for ration card holders

To make the ration card system more transparent, different color codes and categories will be used in several states.
Complaints related to ration cards can now be registered via WhatsApp.
Aadhaar-based e-KYC for all family members is mandatory to continue receiving ration benefits.

Simplified PF (EPFO) rules

The EPFO has reduced the number of categories for PF withdrawals from the previous 13 to just 3.
Withdrawal facilities will now be available under the categories of 'Need,' 'Housing,' and 'Special Circumstances.' The process of transferring PF funds when changing jobs can become much easier if the UAN and Aadhaar are linked.
To ensure retirement security, the EPFO has made it mandatory to retain at least 25% of the PF balance in the account.
Meanwhile, the limit for the auto-settlement of small PF claims has been raised to ₹5 lakh.

Aadhaar-based CKYC 2.0 to be implemented

From August 1, banks, insurance companies, and mutual fund houses will begin implementing the CKYC 2.0 system.
KYC information will be retrieved directly from the central registry following the customer's digital consent.
This will reduce the need to submit documents repeatedly.
The KYC process will become faster and help curb fraud.
