Surajpur: A 20-year-old woman in Chhattisgarh’s Surajpur district helped police identify her alleged attacker through a mobile phone after suffering a fatal throat injury. Unable to speak because of the severity of the wound, she reportedly typed key details that enabled investigators to trace and arrest the prime suspect within hours.
The victim later succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
Attack Took Place Inside a Public Park
According to police, the woman, identified as Radhika Rajwade, worked as a domestic helper and had gone to Nehru Park in Surajpur after allegedly being called there by Ritesh Rajwade, 23. Investigators believe the two spent nearly an hour together before an argument broke out.
Police allege that the accused attacked the woman with a knife, causing a severe neck injury, before fleeing the spot on a motorcycle.
Unable to Speak, She Used a Phone to Communicate
Despite her critical condition, Radhika managed to leave the park in search of help before collapsing nearby. Passersby rushed her to a district hospital, where doctors found she was unable to speak.
When police attempted to question her, she reportedly gestured for a mobile phone and typed information identifying herself and the alleged attacker. Investigators said this became the first major lead in the case.
She was later referred to a higher medical centre in Ambikapur, where she died during treatment.
Police Arrest Suspect Within Hours
Using the victim typed message, CCTV footage from the park and surrounding roads, along with mobile phone records and digital evidence, police tracked down the suspect the same night. He was arrested from a forested area.
According to Surajpur Police, the accused allegedly confessed during questioning. Investigators suspect the crime may have been linked to a personal relationship dispute, although the exact motive is still under investigation.
Investigation Continues
Police are now working to recover the weapon allegedly used in the attack and are examining additional digital evidence to establish the sequence of events. The incident has raised concerns over public safety, as the attack occurred inside a popular public park located close to the local police station.
