Tejaswin Shankar, an Indian athlete, made history by clinching the bronze medal in the decathlon at the Commonwealth Games, marking him as the first Indian to achieve this feat in the event. He concluded the competition with a remarkable score of 7,976 points, a significant milestone for Indian athletics.

Shankar secured his bronze medal following a strong performance in the final event, the 1500m race, where he finished with a time of 4:36.19. Although he faced a late challenge from an English competitor, whose time was 4:32.29, Shankar maintained his position, ensuring his historic podium finish. This accomplishment adds to India's growing legacy in athletics at the Commonwealth Games. The silver medal was awarded to Canada's Damian Warner, while Grenada's Lindon Victor took home the gold. With this bronze, Tejaswin Shankar has made his mark as India's first decathlon medallist at the Commonwealth Games.

Tejaswin gained recognition in high jump after breaking the Indian national record with a height of 2.29m in 2018. He further solidified his status in Indian athletics by winning a bronze medal in high jump at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, becoming the first Indian male high jumper to achieve this honor. In 2023, he added a bronze in decathlon at the Asian Athletics Championships, followed by a silver medal at the 2025 edition of the same event.

The 2026 season marked another significant chapter in Tejaswin's career. He won the heptathlon gold at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, setting a new national record with 5,993 points. Later that year, he made history by becoming the first Indian decathlete to exceed the 8,000-point threshold, achieving a new national record of 8,057 points at the National Federation Senior Athletics Championships.
