On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Andy Burnham committed to elevating the India-UK comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights. They discussed leveraging the opportunities presented by the recently implemented bilateral trade agreement during a phone conversation. Modi congratulated Burnham on assuming his new role and wished him success in his tenure through a social media post.

Modi stated, "We have agreed to collaborate in areas such as technology, innovation, defense, security, clean energy, education, and enhancing people-to-people connections between our nations to elevate the India-UK strategic partnership." He emphasized the importance of maximizing trade and investment opportunities from the newly established India-UK comprehensive economic and trade agreement for the shared prosperity and welfare of both nations.

Meanwhile, a statement from the UK highlighted that Burnham opened the conversation by referencing the strength of the UK-India partnership and its significant impact on local communities in Britain. The statement noted, "The Prime Minister expressed his ambitions to further deepen UK-India relations, which include the UK-India Vision 2035 framework and robust people-to-people ties." Additionally, Burnham acknowledged the contributions of Indian communities within British society, while Modi pointed out the connections between their respective hometowns—Manchester and Ahmedabad, which he referred to as India's Manchester. Modi also stressed the significance of the recently initiated free trade agreement, which is expected to create opportunities for the citizens of both countries.
