Swarchhanda presented Yaad Kiya Dil Ne ... A Classic Revival, a five-hour musical tribute to the legendary women playback singers of Hindi cinema, at Bipin Chandra Pal Auditorium in Chittaranjan Park, New Delhi, on July 12. The concert celebrated the voices of over 40 female playback singers from the 1940s to the 1970s, recreating more than 60 evergreen songs through choir and solo performances.
Organised by the Delhi-NCR-based cultural initiative, the event paid tribute to singers ranging from Kanan Devi and Rajkumari to Lata Mangeshkar , Asha Bhosle, Hemlata and Preeti Sagar. The performances revisited songs that became part of generations of listeners' memories through gramophones, radio, cassettes and CDs.
The concert featured performances by choirs Anondodhoni (Gurgaon), Antarik, Ichchhe Bitan and host ensemble Swarchhanda – Ek Sangeetotsav. Solo performances were presented by Piyali Halder, Rajarshi Debray, Madhumita Sarkar, Subhashish Ghosh, Amritaa Das, Moumita Kundu, Prantik Basu, Kasturika Mishra, Santanu Chakravarty, Chandrika Dutta, Archisha Basu, Nilannjana Ghosh, Swarlipi Sengupta, Srima Pal, Pinaki Patra, Bhaswati Chakravorty, Shayanti Arora, Rohit Kumar Halder and Partha Chanda.
The musical arrangements were led by musician Anirudh Chowdhury and his team, who recreated the original compositions for over 60 songs.
Speaking about the initiative, Subrangshu Chakravarty, founder and convenor of Swarchhanda, said, "Our mission is to build one of India's most respected cultural platforms where tradition meets innovation, every performance tells a story, and music continues to unite people across generations, languages and geographies."
Reflecting on the musical production, Anirudh Chowdhury said, "For musicians, every piece of music is a learning process, be it for a veteran or a novice. Everyone contributed their best performance in this marathon of over 60 songs celebrating 40 legendary female Bollywood voices. I am honoured to supervise the music arrangement entrusted to me by Swarchhanda."
