During a medical examination, a significant incident unfolded as questions from the exam paper began circulating on WhatsApp. This alleged leak occurred on July 27, with officials confirming that images of the question paper were taken from within the examination hall. The situation pertains to the Odisha University of Health Sciences, where students from the 2023-26 batch were taking the General Surgery theory exam. Reports surfaced indicating that the exam paper had been compromised, although the university has not officially classified it as a leak. Management stated that they would first investigate various examination centers before confirming whether a leak had indeed occurred. It remains unclear if the allegedly leaked paper will be canceled or not. Initial investigations suggest that the photographs were captured inside the exam hall, possibly by someone who evaded security checks and smuggled an electronic device inside.

According to reports from a news media outlet, the leak was revealed when a postgraduate student from a private medical college in Bhubaneswar reported receiving images of the question paper via a WhatsApp group. Authorities are currently working to identify the creators and members of this group. Following the complaints, academic officials convened a virtual meeting to review the examination protocols. Professor Harekrishna Dalai, chairman of MKCG MCH, commented on the situation, stating that a virtual meeting was held in response to the leak allegations. He assured that all directives from the Vice-Chancellor regarding the conduct of the remaining two exams would be strictly followed.

Officials clarified that it appears the paper was sent out from within the examination hall rather than being leaked beforehand. Professor Dalai emphasized that this incident should not be labeled as a 'leak' since the questions did not reach students until after the exam had commenced. The term 'leak' typically refers to the prior distribution of the exam paper to students. In this case, the paper was shared after it had been distributed. There are suspicions that a gadget or application may have been used to disseminate the information. Despite regular searches and security checks, if a student managed to sneak a phone into the hall, it could explain how the paper was shared. Measures will be implemented to prevent such occurrences in the future.
