Neeraj Chopra CWG 2026: India's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is ready to once again show his talent in the Commonwealth Games. Neeraj will participate in the men's javelin throw event in the 2026 Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow with the aim of winning another Commonwealth Games Gold Medal.
Glasgow (Scotland): Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra will compete in the men's javelin throw competition to be held at the Scottish Stadium on Thursday. Neeraj had won a gold medal at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, but could not participate in the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games due to injury.
Olympic gold medalist Neeraj will now be eyeing his second Commonwealth Games title when he returns to Glasgow. This will be his first big match of the 2026 season after recovering from injury.
Neeraj had earlier participated in the Doha Diamond League, where he returned after a long time and performed brilliantly. He threw 85.69 meters in the third attempt and stood third at the end of the third round.
After this, in the fourth round he made a throw of 83.45 meters. Although he had to throw more than 86 meters to remain in the top three in the fifth round, he could not do so. Neeraj slipped to fourth place after another foul throw and was out of the competition.
The men's javelin throw competition at the Commonwealth Games 2026 will be held in two phases. The qualification round will be held on July 30, while the final match for medals will be played on the morning of August 1 (IST).
Meanwhile, India performed brilliantly on the seventh day of the Commonwealth Games 2026. India won three medals, including one gold and two silver. India has assured at least six more medals in boxing.
Dilip Mahadu Gavit won gold medal in men's T47 100m race with a Games record. Whereas Mohammad Basil Morsingnath won the silver medal. Apart from this, Murali Sreeshankar achieved the distinction of becoming the first Indian long jumper to win two medals in the Commonwealth Games by winning a silver medal in the men's long jump.
