As the monsoon breathes new life into Rajasthan’s landscape, it is also ushering in an unexpected wedding boom. Once considered an off-season for destination weddings, the rainy months are fast gaining popularity as couples opt for more affordable celebrations. Lower hotel tariffs, discounted décor and catering, cheaper flights, and attractive wedding packages are making monsoon weddings an increasingly appealing choice.

Long synonymous with grand destination weddings, Rajasthan’s majestic forts, palaces, heritage havelis, and luxury resorts continue to draw couples seeking a royal celebration. However, tying the knot during the peak tourist season often comes with a hefty price tag. This has prompted many couples to shift their celebrations to the monsoon months, a trend that hotel operators, travel agencies, and wedding planners say is gathering pace as cost-conscious couples look for luxury at a fraction of the peak-season cost.

‘Affordability is the biggest driver behind this growing trend’
Wedding planner Mahavir Sharma, founder of Swishin Events, shares, “Wedding season in India—especially in Rajasthan—typically begins in October, coinciding with the peak tourist season. As a result, airfares soar and hotel tariffs become significantly more expensive. However, with some planning, couples can secure cheaper flights and more affordable hotel rates without compromising on the experience. Affordability is the biggest driver behind this growing trend. For those dreaming of a regal destination wedding, the tourism off-season offers the perfect opportunity. Interestingly, NRIs and people from states such as Gujarat, Goa, and southern India are more open to hosting weddings during the monsoon, unlike many North Indians, who traditionally avoid weddings during Chaturmas—the four-month monsoon period.”

‘Jaipur, Jodhpur & Jaisalmer are popular monsoon wedding destinations’
Udaipur, Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Jaisalmer are among the top choices for NRI weddings, thanks to their royal architecture and timeless charm. But securing these venues during the peak wedding season is nearly impossible. Wedding planner Siddharth Chaturvedi, founder, Event Crafter, shares, “A wedding in a majestic fort or palace—complete with regal charm, lavish feasts, and grand entertainment—is a dream for many, but often comes with a hefty price tag. However, during the monsoon, that dream can become surprisingly affordable. As the rainy season marks the tourism off-season in Rajasthan, many hotels, heritage palaces, and luxury resorts slash their tariffs to attract guests. Couples looking for a royal wedding often choose Jaipur or Jodhpur for their magnificent forts and palaces, while those dreaming of exchanging vows against the backdrop of sweeping sand dunes head to Jaisalmer for their big day.”

‘Venues are often booked well in advance’
Cities like Udaipur, which is famous for its beautiful lakes, look more vibrant during the monsoon. Chaturvedi adds, “In fact, these cities have become popular wedding destinations, especially for NRIs who want a traditional Indian-style wedding on home soil. Udaipur, being one of the most sought-after destinations, is an ideal choice for them. Venues are often booked well in advance, yet weddings can still be planned within a reasonable budget. Moreover, couples can save significantly on other expenses, including the venue, décor, photography, choreography, and bridal beauty services.”

‘Wedding celebrations become even more magical during the monsoon’
Celebrations that embrace the monsoon—through pool parties, rain dances, and chai-pakora stations—can add an extra dose of fun to the festivities. Keeping this in mind, wedding planners are incorporating unique monsoon-themed experiences to keep guests entertained. Amrita Ghosh, Director, Sales and Marketing, at The InterContinental Jaipur, says, “With the pleasant weather, lush greenery, and endless rounds of chai and pakoras, wedding celebrations become even more magical during the monsoon. We hosted four weddings at our hotel this month and have several more lined up in the coming months. To enhance the experience, we’ve created a special chai adda in our lounge, where guests can enjoy freshly brewed chai and snacks 24x7. The timeless combination of hot chai and crispy pakoras has become a guest favourite.”

Hosting a wedding during the rainy season comes with its own set of challenges, as unpredictable weather can easily play spoilsport. But seasoned wedding experts know how to tackle them.
