New Delhi [भारत]July 29 (ANI): India is set to play a major role in the development of 6G technology and creating global standards for next generation telecommunication, backed by proactive efforts by the Government of India and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). India Mobile Congress (IMC) CEO Ramakrishna P. told this to ANI on Wednesday.

India will become a leader in 6G

Speaking to ANI after the launch of the theme of India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026, Ramakrishna P. said, "Definitely, a lot of discussions are taking place; standards are being set, and the government and the Department of Telecommunications are playing a big role in 6G. I am sure we will take the lead; at least we will have a good role in driving the 6G standards and 6G innovation."

Responding to a question on the development of 6G, Ramakrishna said India is actively participating in the global standard-setting process and expressed confidence that the country will emerge as a leader in next-generation telecom innovation.

Theme of IMC 2026: 'Scale without boundaries'

He said the highlight of the launch event was the unveiling of the theme of IMC 2026, 'Scale Without Boundaries', which is built on four pillars and aims to encourage Indian companies, innovators and citizens to take their ideas and businesses to the global platform.

"The biggest thing about today's event or this evening was the theme. The theme was 'Scale Without Boundaries' and those were the four pillars around which it was structured," he said. Ramakrishna said India should strengthen its position on the global technology map by encouraging its industry, entrepreneurs and innovators to expand beyond domestic markets.

He said, "India needs to be on the global map, and our companies, our industry, our citizens need to look at the fact that they have to move forward and they have to expand to take their companies or their individual ideas, innovations across the world, and to make that possible, they have to be borderless. I think that is the power and intention of everyone who contributes to the industry, that is what we need to provide and that is what IMC wants to do."

Cybersecurity and data protection priority

On cyber security and data protection, Ramakrishna said that as India's digital ecosystem grows, protecting the country's sovereignty must remain the top priority. "I think the country's sovereignty is the top priority. Every company or every solution, every app must protect sovereignty, and cyber security plays an important role," he said.

He said that Indian products, digital solutions and applications must not only be globally competitive but also be trusted across the world while maintaining strong cyber security measures. "It has two levels. One, any product from India must have a trust factor that is universally accepted across the world. The second is to maintain sovereignty with cyber security," he said.

Praise for India's innovation ecosystem

Praising India's innovation ecosystem, Ramakrishna lauded Skyroot for its achievements in the space sector and said that many start-ups in the cellular and wireless technology segments are also getting active support from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

He said, "Skyroot has done a tremendous job. We should all be proud of those two guys and the way they have taken the satellite mission forward. Even in the cellular or wireless sector, there are many start-ups that have been actively funded by the Department of Telecommunications. We are proud of them, and there will be more to come in future industries."

Ramakrishna also said that more than 100 countries are expected to participate in India Mobile Congress 2026, underscoring the growing stature of the event as a global platform for the telecom and digital technology ecosystem. (ANI)
