Jay Shah, the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), shared heartfelt wishes on Guru Purnima, underscoring the vital role that teachers and mentors play in shaping future generations through their teachings and values.

In a post on X, Shah remarked that the legacy of a Guru transcends mere knowledge, focusing instead on the values instilled in their students. He expressed, "The most significant legacy a Guru imparts is not just knowledge, but the values that influence generations. Wishing everyone a blessed and Happy Guru Purnima."

Guru Purnima, also referred to as Vyasa Purnima, is a significant day celebrated by Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain communities in India, Nepal, Bhutan, and other regions. This day commemorates the birth of Maharishi Ved Vyasa, a revered sage known for compiling the Vedas and authoring the Mahabharata, thus establishing a lasting spiritual legacy as the Adi Guru, or the original teacher.

It is believed that honoring Gurus on this day can lead to positive transformations in one's life. In Varanasi, there is a tradition of receiving the Guru Mantra on this occasion. Additionally, rituals such as bathing and making donations on Ashadha Purnima are considered highly auspicious.

In Indian culture, a Guru is viewed as a crucial guide to achieving success in life. Particularly in Varanasi, the Guru holds immense significance, with thousands visiting their Gurus on this day, offering gifts according to their means. The Guru's role is so vital that, in Indian tradition, they are often regarded as more important than God.

This festival is not exclusive to Hindus; it is also celebrated by Jains, Buddhists, and Sikhs. Notably, in Buddhism, Lord Buddha delivered his first Dharma Chakra Pravartan on this day.

On this auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, a significant number of devotees flocked to the Saryu Ghat in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, to take a holy dip in the river.

From early morning, devotees from various regions of the state and beyond arrived at the banks of the Saryu River to perform rituals and offer their prayers.
