New Delhi, July 28 - In a focused operation lasting 24 hours, the Delhi Police apprehended 12 individuals suspected of cybercrime and registered six First Information Reports (FIRs). An official disclosed this information on Tuesday, stating that the initiative aimed to dismantle gangs allegedly involved in cyber fraud, which involved siphoning off money into 'mule' bank accounts before withdrawing it from ATMs across the city.
To identify members of the gang, investigators analyzed withdrawal patterns, scrutinized 68 suspicious bank accounts, and reviewed footage from over 100 CCTV cameras located at ATMs and nearby areas. Additionally, they examined call detail records, bank account information, and transaction data. The police noted that more than 100 complaints filed on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) were linked to the identified accounts, which involved fraudulent amounts totaling millions of rupees.
According to the official, simultaneous raids were conducted at various locations based on the analysis, leading to the arrest of the 12 suspects. These individuals are accused of operating as mule account providers, account collectors, commission agents, cash handlers, and fake call center operators. The operation uncovered six distinct cases, including scholarship fraud, fake loan scams, investment fraud, job placement scams, and several crore rupees linked to 'digital arrest' frauds associated with Bengaluru.
