Glasgow: Indian athlete For Tejaswin Shankar, the Commonwealth Games men’s high jump event brought disappointment. Due to severe pain in his knee during the warm-up, he had to withdraw from the competition even after his first successful attempt. Knee pain increased during warm-up

27-year-old Tejaswin Shankar said that he started having severe pain in his knee during the warm-up. He said that this problem is not new to him and this type of problem is common in high jump players, which is also called ‘jumper’s knee’.

Tejaswin said the pain emerged at a time when he was confident he could win another medal at the Commonwealth Games. For this reason, being out of the competition was very disappointing for him.

Tejaswin Shankar expressed hope that he will be completely fit by the decathlon event starting from Thursday. He said that he will make every possible effort to regain fitness in the next two days and will leave no stone unturned.

Even after withdrawing from the competition, Tejaswin stayed at the venue and kept encouraging Sarvesh Kushare. When Kushare’s rhythm started deteriorating, Tejaswin gave him technical advice to change his run-up.

Kushare later admitted that his rhythm had deteriorated at the height of 2.25 metres, but following Tejaswin’s advice he modified his run-up, which helped him improve his performance and win the silver medal.
