Manchester United are still looking to add another midfielder, and Real Madrid have now reached an agreement that could soon pave the way for Eduardo Camavinga to move.

Manchester United may be on the verge of finalising the signing of Eduardo Camavinga after developments at Real Madrid.

The Red Devils have had a fairly modest summer so far, although midfield has been the main area of investment for new manager Michael Carrick, with the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos already strengthening that department.

However, with reports suggesting that Manchester United could still make further moves to reinforce the middle of the pitch, could their biggest signing of the window be about to arrive?

It has been a difficult few months for Camavinga at Real Madrid, with the Frenchman struggling in the second half of the season under Alvaro Arbeloa before his surprise omission from France's 2026 World Cup squad.

As if that uncertainty was not enough, Los Blancos have brought in Bernardo Silva to compete for places in midfield, and have also reached an agreement for his former team-mate, World Cup winner Rodri, to join, according to French outlet RMC Sport.

According to The Guardian, United have already marked Camavinga as a major opportunity, with as little as £51 million enough to persuade the 15-time European champions to let the 23-year-old leave.

FourFourTwo understands, though, that the transfer fee is only part of the picture: Camavinga would demand big wages wherever he goes, and the Red Devils are unwilling to upset their wage structure.

If a deal can be done, the French talent could prove to be the final piece of the puzzle, and with Real having allowed the likes of Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard to leave on loan in the past to gain minutes - not to mention the sale of Casemiro to Old Trafford, which helped Camavinga himself to flourish - such a move does not feel especially unlikely.

Camavinga is not only capable of covering at left-back, a role United have had issues with before because of Luke Shaw's injury problems, but he is also exactly the sort of ground-covering ball-winner the club currently lacks.

With Santos, Tielemans and Kobbie Mainoo, Carrick already has three hardworking pressers of high technical quality, but Camavinga has shown at the very highest level that he can cover huge distances and bring a physical edge that the Red Devils may be missing at present.

At the moment, FourFourTwo understands that the former Rennes man would rather stay at the Bernabeu and fight for a place under new manager Jose Mourinho.

If Rodri does arrive, though, that stance could change - particularly as the transfer window moves towards its closing stages.

According to Transfermarkt, Camavinga is valued at €50m. United begin their new season against Hull City on the first day of the campaign.
