Where opening your eyes in the morning is the signal reaching the brain, now immediately unlocking and scrolling is the routine and the message or notification you were waiting for is the reward. The brain makes you do this every day to get this mental satisfaction.
So checking your phone as soon as you wake up is a natural reaction of the brain, it cannot be called a complete addiction. But addiction occurs when a few minutes of interest turns into hours of doom scrolling. However, it can ruin all your morning productivity or brain performance and make you addicted to your phone.
