An oil tanker passing through the Strait of Hormuz exploded after hitting a sea mine. According to a report by Iran’s Tasnim news agency, the tanker strayed from its designated sea route from Iran. Going the wrong way, it hit a mine and exploded. According to the report, the accident occurred in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategic and busiest oil routes. From where 20 percent of the global oil supply passes. However, Iran has closed this route to most countries due to the Iran-US war.

Iran laid sea mines because of the state of war

There has been no official statement from the Iranian authorities regarding this tragedy. So the explosion in the tanker and its causes could not be ascertained independently. No information regarding the identity of the tanker, the crew members on board and the country it belonged to has been released. This incident has happened at a time when there is tension in the Middle East. For the past 2 weeks, there have been attacks on each other’s military bases between America and Iran. Which has been closed for 2 days now – during this time this tragedy has occurred.

The Iranian Army (IRGC) insists that oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz pass through this route only after obtaining permission from the Iranian Army. Because, because of the war, they closed the normal route to the Strait of Hormuz and laid sea mines there. Now the accident happened when the oil tanker went astray and took another route.
